Flatfile Data Exchange Platform
You can get started using the Flatfile Data Exchange Platform completely free and grow at your own pace. When you get to the point where you are moving significant amounts of data through Flatfile, you can choose to move to a pay-as-you-go plan and pay for the volume you use above your free allowance or switch to a subscription plan to take advantage of volume discounts at a fixed monthly price.
After you want to move past the monthly free usage allowance, our pricing model is based on the extent you use the Flatfile Data Exchange Platform and the data volume processed.
This includes the following two metrics:
Number of files imported
How much data is processed - this is measured through “Processed Data Values” (PDV) which is akin to API calls or data transfer volume in other systems
Usage is calculated as a combination of files and PDV per month. However, often only one of the two metrics actually apply to a typical use-case (most customers only exceed the files/month limit) in which case of course you only pay for the ones that are being used.
The Flatfile Platform also provides a collaborative project space for teams that need to work through complex data issues or manage large data onboarding projects. Collaborative Projects are optional and only needed if you require a secure and private collaboration space. This add-on is priced by the number of projects, project members and time.
Data usage for development/test purposes that happens in your development environment is always free (of course we expect fair use and that development environments are solely used for development and testing purposes).
Files that apply to your usage metric is any file that is uploaded and extracted to a Flatfile Workbook in your production environment. File uploads to your development environment are free.
PDV (Processed Data Values) are a transparent way to measure big data files. PDVs are akin to cells in a spreadsheet, rows x columns that are created in a Flatfile Workbook in a calendar month (applies to production environments, dev environments are free). PDVs are displayed in millions (M). Our Starter plan includes a free allowance of 10 million PDV per month, which is usually enough for most customers, excluding very large file or high volume use cases.
Collaborative Projects are for teams that require a secure and private collaboration space. Collaborative Projects are purchased by space size and calendar month - “Project Month” (PM) - and can be activated/deactivated anytime. One base Collaborative Project per month is available for all users and includes 3 members, 1B PDV and 125 Files per month. Additional Collaborative Project options are available for Professional and Enterprise plan customers.
You can easily estimate your usage by answering the following questions:
How many files do you import in an average month?
➜ Number of Files imported per month
How many rows and columns does an average file have?
➜ Multiply rows * columns * files per month = Processed Data Values (PDV)
You will see notifications as you approach the limit of the free usage allowance. At that time we’d recommend adding payment information to your account and enabling our simple, fixed-rate pay-as-you-go option to make sure your data continues to be processed after you exceed the free allowance. You can also choose our Professional or Enterprise plans and take advantage of significant volume discounts. Without choosing one of these options you will not be able to process data during the month you have exceeded your free allowance.
Yes, when we say free, we mean $0, no commitment, no monthly fees, no strings attached. Flatfile wants to make it easy for developers to start building with Flatfile without having to pull out a credit card, rushing through a trial or worrying about hitting usage limits as soon as they build their first app.
We therefore provide an entirely free plan with a generous free usage allowance. This enables dev teams to use the Flatfile Data Exchange Platform completely free during the development phase, and free with a monthly usage allowance for production usage. For organizations with a higher volume or business support needs you can then decide to upgrade to a pay-as-you-go plan or a subscription plan for predictable budgeting and volume discounts.
We are striving to provide exceptional support to all of our users, no matter what type of user you are, including live chat and email support for free users. Additionally, our Professional and Enterprise plans include a premium service level and response time.
You can easily subscribe to our Professional plan with or without high usage and receive additional benefits such as whitelabeling, SSO and premium support.
Flatfile does not store or even see your credit card information or payment details. All payments are handled by Stripe, which is PCI Service Provider Level 1 certified and one of the largest, highly secure and most respected payment providers in the world.
All usage and billing is based on UTC (Universal Time Coordinated). As a result, depending on the time zone you are in, your account will be charged on the last day of the month or the first day of the following month.
